You deserve someone who cherishes our community enough to show up, who appreciates our city enough to insist on transparency and accountability, and who loves all of our neighbors enough to live and let live.
As a committed Gulfport resident since college (Go Bulls!), I have done just this. From helping with the very first Gecko Ball at the Peninsula Inn and patronizing the businesses that finally filled Beach Boulevard, to block party potlucks during the economic downturn of the early 2000s, and community clean ups after Helene and Milton — we have lived our community’s highs and lows together.
This connection cuts both ways. My family’s proudest and most heartbreaking moments have been shared with our extended Gulfport community. We celebrated my graduation from graduate school and election to the state legislature with Gulfport at the Peninsula Inn, and we took comfort in a nightly pizza from Joe after we lost my baby sister to the opioid epidemic. You have been a constant support for me and my family.
It is out of this deep gratitude for our community that I throw my hat in the ring for City Council.
We all know that Gulfport is special. Having lived here all of my adult life, I know how we got this way: We meet our neighbors where they are. We accept them for who they are. We celebrate their small and large accomplishments. And, we give people lots of opportunities to get involved to keep the heart of Gulfport beating. All who want what’s best for Gulfport are welcome to get involved. We don’t cast aside those who are different from us.
But we like folks to put in the work. We deserve city council members that will not only work tirelessly to get our neighbors back in their houses and our businesses reopened, but also elected officials that have a vision for the future of Gulfport that includes all of our neighbors. I chose to live in Ward III because my family values the diversity of the neighborhood — we have retirees and students, law professors and taxi drivers, plumbers and teachers all living on our block. Our homes are midcentury bungalows, historic mansions, small homes with big additions, and even some new construction. In Ward III we have been navigating the changing nature of our city and doing it with heart, Halloween parties, and front yard conversations.
I am running to be elected as your Ward III Council Member in Gulfport so I can stand up for our hardworking neighbors, champion the final leg of our recovery, and provide a pathway into our future that works for those who have been here for 30 years and those who have been here for 30 months.
You can count on me to engage our community, connect people, and protect your best interests. I’m committed to putting you first.
